Summary

AN ACT relating to crimes and offenses; creating the crimes of trespassing on critical infrastructure and impeding critical infrastructure; specifying elements; providing penalties; providing definitions; and providing for an effective date.

The fiscal impact to the judicial system is indeterminable due to an unknown number of cases.

The Department of Corrections states that the impact of the bill is indeterminable as there is currently no way to accurately estimate the number of offenders that will be sentenced pursuant to the bill. Creating new sentences that require supervision or incarceration could create a cost to the DOC. Each year of incarceration currently costs the state approximately $41,537 per inmate, including medical costs. Each year of community supervision costs the state approximately $2,000 per inmate.
